Motorcyclist dies after crash through fence

A 22-year-old San Ramon man died Monday evening after
a motorcycle accident.

Bevan Garrett Schroeder was pronounced dead at 7:06 p.m.
at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, less than
four hours after his motorcycle crashed through a wooden
fence on Highland Road, said Contra Costa County Deputy
Coroner James Flanagan. He died from chest and head
injuries.

California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Creel said
Schroeder was eastbound on Highland Road, about one mile
east of Camino Tassajara, at 3:38 p.m. when he crossed
the double yellow line and tried to pass a car.

Schroeder lost control of his 1990 Suzuki Katana 600
while trying to navigate a curve in the road, slid with
his motorcycle across the westbound lane and crashed
through a wooden fence, Creel said. He was traveling
about 55 mph.
