DSL in SD a bitch to find!

I can't believe the process for finding out
DSL is available. First, you need e phone
number *and* address. Then you call the
provider (I called Flashcom) and you need to
determine whether or not you're in range.
Apprently, even though Pac Bell's CGI will
say your prefix qualifies, you need to be
within 17500 feet from the CO. PLUS, if you
want 1.5/1.5, you need to be 1.8 miles (half
teh distance)!.

Has nayone looked at DSL? Sven? I want to
find a place that's in distance for DSL but
at this rate, it's way to difficult. It's
not like calling teh cable company (or going to theiw
web pages) and finding the zip codes offered for
service.
